Ukrainian Orphans
Ukrainian Orphans, Their Need and Breaking the Cycle
80 % of orphans in Ukraine are “social orphans.” This means that 80% have LIVING parents, with terminated rights due to repeated drunkenness, physical abuse, and/or drug-related incidents.
In our Social Service Children outreaches, our goal is, in partnering with the Local Social Services department in:
Preventing future orphans
Sharing the Gospel
Providing for immediate needs
Their home lives are riddled with alcoholism, neglect, abuse, abandonment, and poverty.
After orphans age out of the orphanages, the boys turn to drugs and/or alcohol and the girls turn to prostitution to make ends meet and stay alive. Often orphans grow up and create more orphans.
How We Meet That Need
Each month, Building Hope in Ukraine, Inc. staff visit these children and make reports to Social Services. Additionally, we provide families with simple food packages such as: bread, macaroni, rice, cream of wheat, cooking oil, butter, eggs, cheese, sausages, cabbage, carrots, onions, apples, oranges, juice and milk to help meet the need of providing for these children. We also provide school supplies and other material needs like blankets and warm clothing for winter.
Each year we run a Summer Camp for Orphans and Children at Risk.
While society turns a blind eye to these wonderful people, we offer compassionate care with transformational love. This is what Jesus looks like in action.
